Whether with Cyro Baptista or individually, Zé Maurício has been teaching Samba and Brazilian percussion to children throughout the U.S. at community centers, art centers, public and private schools for over 10 years. He believes that music education is an important tool in reducing school drop out rates and in improving the creativity, focus and self-confidence of students. As a faculty member of Create!, Americas Society and Brooklyn Charter School, Zé Maurício has conducted many percussion workshops for eclectic audiences. He is currently teaching and developing a percussion ensemble after-school program in Brooklyn, with first and second graders, at the Community Roots Charter School. Zé Mauricio and his partner Lisette are currently accepting private students. Along the years, they have developed classes catering to all levels, as well as, to special needs students.
